40. The Ghadar Party Formation (1913)

The Ghadar Party was formed in 1913 in the United States by Indian immigrants, primarily from Punjab, with the aim of overthrowing British colonial rule in India. It was founded by Har Dayal, Sohan Singh Bhakna, and other like-minded revolutionaries. The party’s name “Ghadar” means “mutiny” or “revolt” in Punjabi. The Ghadar Party published a newspaper called “Ghadar” in multiple languages, which spread revolutionary ideas among Indians worldwide. The party played a significant role in organising and supporting revolutionary activities in India and advocating for India’s independence through armed struggle. However, its activities were closely monitored and suppressed by British authorities.
