33. The formation of Muslim League (1906)
The All-India Muslim League was formed in 1906 during a meeting held in Dhaka, Bengal. It was established by prominent Muslim leaders, including Aga Khan, Nawab Salimullah Khan, and others, with the aim of safeguarding Muslim political interests and advocating for their rights within the Indian political framework. The Muslim League demanded separate electorates for Muslims, representation in government institutions, and protection of their religious, social, and economic rights. The formation of the Muslim League marked the beginning of organised political activity among Muslims in India and played a significant role in shaping the demand for a separate Muslim homeland, culminating in the eventual creation of Pakistan in 1947.
