LEARNING TREE

The NEP 2020, a new National Curriculum Framework, is the first education policy of the 21st Century that aims to bring in various reforms in school education as well as higher education, including technical education.

It was launched on July 29, 2020. The NEP has replaced the earlier 10+2 system with 5+3+3+4 in the school education.

While 10+2 refers to

two years of schooling after Class 10, under the 5+3+3+4 system, students will spend five years in the foundational stage (3-8 years old); three years in the preparatory stage (8-11); three years in the middle stage (11-14), and four years in the secondary

stage (14-18).

One of the major reforms under NEP is that the students will take examination in Classes 3, 5, and 8. Board examination for Classes 10 and 12 will continue to be held.

Under the new education system, study materials will be given to students till Class 5 in 22 Indian languages. Earlier, NCERT textbooks were only in three languages i.e., English, Hindi, and Urdu.
